3 Books to Read This Summer

Summer is here and with it comes so much reading! In our house we love, love, love summer reading. It’s kind of funny because it’s no different than Fall, Winter, or Spring reading…but for some reason it feels more indulgent and I always seem to pick more beach reads which is always fun. One of my favorite parts of our summer reading routine is our weekly trip to the library. When we get home all of us dive into all of our treasures- it’s so much fun. I can remember being a kid myself and absolutely loving having a fresh stack of books and it’s so cool seeing the same excitement through the eyes of my little ones.

So, in the spirit of summertime reading, here are three picks for great summer books!

Daisy Jones & the Six: A Novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid

I’ve loved almost everything this author has written and this book was no different. It’s fiction, but it’s told so realistically I had to go Google “Daisy Jones & the Six” to make sure. To be honest the format of the book took me a minute to get into, and I did put it down for about a week after the first few pages. I picked it back up one evening though, and I was hooked. It’s the story of a world famous band, how they got there, the back story, all of the drama in between…and then what happens at the end. This is part Rolling Stones article, part diary-fiction, part beach read. All very entertaining. Pick it up and let me know what you think!

This Will Only Hurt a Little by Busy Philipps

This book! It was so wonderful. I love Busy Philipps, I love following her on Instagram, and I love that she’s a fellow Arizona gal. The AZ references made the in book were really fun and I had a great time reading this one. It’s a memoir, so prepare yourself for a lot of realness from the author. You’ll dive into her relationships, lots about her marriage, mental health, work, and so much more. If you’re in the mood for an easy-to-read memoir, try this one.

One DAY in December by Josie Silver

This is a good one- a fast read, quite well-written, and very engaging. I really enjoyed it. I've looked over a bunch of different reviews of this book online and they all give way too much away! Part of the excitement about this book was that I knew nothing, and I didn't know what to expect. A lot happens in the beginning, and then you spend the whole book waiting to see it all play out. It is definitely a ride and I found myself almost racing through the pages to get to the next part. It's a longer read, or at least it felt that way to me. And not in a negative way, but in a meaty, I'm getting my money's worth way. Fantastic book. And here's all I'm going to say about it- it's a love story, but not a mushy one. It's about friendship and relationships and choices...and how our decisions play out over the course of our life. I am not going to say more! Just go get it, and read it, and then tell me what you think!

Happy reading!
