Listen: Albums That Just Feel Like Fall

IMG_0023.JPG

Olive and I were on a walk this morning and I was listening to one of my favorite albums- Dashboard Confessional’s The Swiss Army Romance. To me, this album (as well as The Places You Have Come to Fear the Most and So Impossible EP) feel so much like Fall. They evoke memories of walking around my college campus, the leaves just beginning to turn, the crisp bite of that early-Autumn Flagstaff air. And now, almost 20 years later, these albums take me right back. But not just to this time in my life- it’s a very distinct feeling I get every year as summer falls away- it’s part excitement, part nostalgia, and part something else that I can’t quite describe that feels a bit magical too.

When I’m sad, I’ll lean into all my sad music. When I’m happy, I’m listening to upbeat, positive things- it’s just what I do. When my father passed away I immersed myself in all of the music that reminded me of him- John Denver, Elton John, Billy Joel, The Moody Blues, The Everly Brothers. And when seasons change I’m the same- if you had access to my Spotify you’d see so many seasonal playlists. I make them as the seasons go on, adding favorite songs of the moment to the soundtrack I’ve already created to that block of a few months year after year. I love it.

Fall is my favorite, and some albums just bring on all the Fall feelings. I thought it would be fun to share a list of some of my quintessential Autumn albums. Take a look (and a listen), and let me know what’s on your list too! I’ve included the artist, album, and any specific songs that really stand out. Enjoy, and be sure to leave a comment with a couple of your favorite Fall albums too.
